Case Study - Human Resources
Sarah Robson Human Resources Manager
After leaving university with a BA(Hons) in Business Studies, Sarah started work as a HR Assistant in the NHS where she completed her CIPD studies. After 2½ years she left to work as a HR Officer in the chilled food industry.
Sarah joined Bakkavör in November 2000 as a HR Manager at one of the Group’s Lincolnshire sites.
“I joined Bakkavör as I saw it as a big successful company with a good reputation locally. I also felt it was one of the best food manufacturers to work for and I liked working within the chilled prepared foods industry”.
Within two months of joining Sarah was seconded to Kent to help with the Tilmanstone Salads build and start up. “I was often seen walking around in the mud in my hardhat and wellies!”
Since then Sarah has got married and had a son, and now has responsibility for three of our factories. “I really enjoy working over the 3 different sites as you have different cultures and challenges within each of them.
The most rewarding part of my role is feeling that I truly have an impact on the business and seeing that the business recognises HR as a key contributor in all aspects. Also developing my team to enable them to run their sites effectively, seeing them develop their experience and knowledge and adding value within their business.
To work in a HR role at Bakkavör you need to be business focused, supportive and empathetic, challenging to others, open to change, have good organisation and communication skills as well as being very patient at times!”
